KetamineKetamine AddictionThe street drug known as Special K is not manufactured in illegal laboratories; rather, pharmaceutical Ketamine is obtained during burglaries of veterinary clinics and evaporated to a liquid (Special K), then drying the liquid and mincing the resulting residue to powder. Special K is typically snorted, swallowed or injected when in its liquid form. Some abusers of the drug sprinkle the powder form on tobacco or marijuana and smoke it. A gram of Special K sells for about $100 on the black market and is sometimes mixed with amphetamine, methamphetamine or cocaine. Special K has become a staple at all-night "rave" parties, dance parties typically populated by those in their late teens to mid-20s, and produces effects ranging from vague intoxication to delirium and is usually followed by the inability to move, feel pain or remember what occurred while under the influence. Ketamine's effects typically kick in one to five minutes after ingestion and can affect the body for up to 24 hours. The immediate effects of Special K include:
