As the obsession and craving increase, likely so does the amount of intake. The disease has set in and it's possible that alcohol is causing problems with the person's health and everyday living. The function of the liver is to serve as a filter that rids the body of poisons and harmful waste. As the alcohol travels through the body, it passes through the liver for purification. Instead, it ends up gnawing away at the liver and ultimately damaging it. In turn the liver is unable to perform its primary detoxification function, resulting in liver failure. The outcome of cirrhosis is often death. b)Wet brain, a condition that arises out of overconsumption of alcohol over a long period of time. At this point an individual's brain is damaged to the point of not functioning properly. c)Dependence, a situation where one cannot live without their drink. According to research, people who reported starting to drink before the age of 15 were four times more likely to report meeting the criteria for alcohol dependence at some point in their lives. More than 67 percent of people who start drinking before the age of 15 ultimately try an illicit drug. Children who drink are more prone to use marijuana and cocaine than those who don't. d)Increased sexual activity among teens is highly likely and more acceptable when they're under the influence than when sober. e)Alcohol use frequently results in poor academic performance resulting in equally poor grades, absenteeism and high dropout rates. It interferes with a student's ability to think, making learning and concentration more difficult and ultimately impeding overall academic performance. In fact, the more a student uses alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, the lower his grade point average is likely to be and the more likely he is to drop out of school. f)Withdrawal is a major consequence of alcohol abuse. Upon discontinued use, withdrawal symptoms are a sure sign that one has become physically dependent or addicted to alcohol. Often extremely uncomfortable, withdrawal symptoms include sweating, accompanied by tremors, nausea, anxiety, insomnia, confusion and a drop in concentration. If not medically managed in a detox center, they may progress into seizures, convulsions and even death. g)Alcohol dependence can damage and even destroy relationships. It is a common cause for divorce and broken homes, domestic violence and assault. These in turn result in financial difficulties, loss of employment and legal difficulties such as DUI, DWI and in worse case scenarios, vehicular manslaughter.
